Taking over the proverbial baton of HMT, The Bangalore Watch Company is designing, assembling, and selling beautiful watches — perfect for the modern gentleman.
About Time: This Bangalore Brand Is Bringing Back The Glory Day Of Fine Watches
Sure you love your Patek Philippe, Jaeger Lecoultre and Vacheron Constantin, but what if we told you that you can get a luxury, fine watch, that’s made in India? Yup, now that we have your attention, you’ve got Nirupesh Joshi and Mercy Amalraj that have come together for this micro brand named The Watch Company. Designing, and putting together these vintage-esque watches, with components sourced from across the globe, including Japan, Switzerland, and India, we got a sneak peek into the limited edition collection.
Neatly enclosed in a very classic wooden box that is lacquer-finished, we loved the experience of opening this product — like it was a family heirloom you wanted to guard! The debut collection has six examples, in terms of design, but the movement is all identical. Called The Rennaissance, the automatic watches come with surgical-grade steel, satin-brushed lugs with a polished chamfer are set 20mm apart, with their logo etched onto it. It’s also water resistant up to 330 feet.
And that’s just the design. The movement is as enticing, as this one features Citizen Japan’s Miyota 9015 movement that is an automatic winding, three hand time-teller, plus date, with a window at 3H. Of course, the seconds hand sweeps smoothly and silently. We also love that you can see the mechanics of it all through the flat sapphire crystal on the back. All this is held in place with supple leather bands made of calf-skin, embossed and printed with a croc-pattern, fitting the classic style of the timepieces.
There are also three dial variants. There’s Deep Anthracite, Grand Ivory, and Argentum. And within those, there are two colours too. Pick from a stainless steel if you like that silver look. But we’d pick the PVD coated rose-gold version any day, for it’s classic and timeless look.
Priced at about INR 38,799 and available to pre-order, these timepieces should be in your dresser for its wonderful design, mechanics, and mostly because it’s a representation of India on the fine watch map of the world.
