Ever wondered what goes into the food that you get for your pup? Well, so have Shilpa Uppalapati and Ganesh Kumar, a city-based couple {and former computer science engineers}. When the duo got a puppy from their neighbour, a few years ago, they began researching about pet food and the kind of ingredients and fillers that go into these products.
What started off as blog posts to inform other pet parents about the need to pore over pet food labels, eventually grew into Barks n Licks. An online store that brings together carefully selected brands of premium dog food {they follow certain guidelines for this; for instance, no corn or wheat among the ingredients} and even grooming products and accessories, it’s a real find. Started over two years ago, they also have a physical space, a house-cum-warehouse, Shilpa tells us, in the city. The duo also works with NGOs in the city to foster pets and even makes regular contributions to the organisations.

Categorised into Starter Puppy, Puppy and Adults, the dog food here comes from Indian brands like Drools Focus, and imported ones like the popular Orijen and Acana {both from Canada}. When you’re done stocking up on grub, take a look at their range of dog treats which include everything from biscuits and chewies to jerkies and dental care bones – perfect when you want to reward them for being a darling. They have a section for vegetarian treats, too!
