BBMP Has New Rules About Doggos And Bangalore Is Not Happy

The information in this post might be outdated

According to this report from NDTV, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP), has issued a new pet licensing scheme where only one approved dog can be reared in a flat while an independent house cannot have more than three dogs. For pet parents and pet activists with more than one furry best friend, this ruling is harsh. And so do we really! How can anyone be made to choose between their babies? Surely it is impossible, and unnecessary! Many have taken to social media to protest this ruling. A petition which originally needed 7,000 signatures on change.org “BBMP, why punish responsible pet owners instead of backyard breeders?” has gone well over the mark, and has now even been made 10,000 signatures. That too doesn’t seem like a hard target, seeing as pet lovers are livid. Apart from all this, the new rule also mandates that pet owners need to have radio collars with embedded chips for their pets. In case the pet owner is found to have a dog without a license, they will have to pay a fine of INR 1,000. Another report on The Hindu, mentions that BBMP is calling citizens for suggestions on dog licensing. While we are still waiting for a final ruling, you show your support and sign the change.org petition here. We’ve done so, and will be busy playing with Zizou, Masti, Simba and Scooby, all our in-house doggos, and hoping things change.
