Ten-second takeaway

Over 170 films from 61 countries within 7 days - this is what you can look forward to at the Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFes)'s latest edition.

It's showtime

Imagine a whole week of great movies, spanning different genres, countries and languages. Bliss, no? That's what awaits you at this year's BIFFes (January 28-February 4). Organised by the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy for Government of Karnataka, the festival's 8th edition will screen over 170 movies from 61 countries. To be held in Bengaluru and Mysuru simultaneously, the event will also include a section for documentary films this time around, we hear. What else is new in the latest edition? You won't have to hop from one venue to the other to catch the movies. They will all be shown across 11 screens under one roof (that's a first, we must add), at the PVR Cinemas, Orion Mall.

Filmy week

Movie buffs can look forward to critically acclaimed as well as lesser known films from all over the globe, in various categories like Cinema of the World, Country Focus (which will include movies from Mexico, Iran and Turkey), Directors' Retrospectives (Istvan Szabo of Hungary and Nils Malmros of Denmark), Artist Retrospective (actress Dr. B. Sarojadevi) and Dada Saheb Phalke Award Winners’ Vintages (Mrinal Sen and Adoor Gopalakrishnan), among others. The competition section includes Asian Cinema Competition, Indian Cinema Competition and Kannada Cinema Competition.

Going by the updates on BIFFes's Facebook page, we're definitely hoping to catch the screening of movies like Tangerine (an American comedy-drama film, shot with three iPhone 5s smartphones), Taxi Tehran (an Iranian docufiction by internationally acclaimed director, Jafar Panahi) and Victoria (a German drama film which was shot in a single take).

Inauguration of the Festival will be held on the evening of Thursday, January 28 at Vidhana Soudha.
