Watching TV with the fam is always a fun time, and watching with dad is mighty entertaining with all the extra commentary! We asked the LBB Crew what their favourite movies are with their dads and this list is the result. So here are the best movies you can stream online with you dad -- be it action flicks on Netflix, family dramas on Disney+ Hotstar, or a good time with Amazon Prime.

The Lion King

This one doesn’t really need an intro right? If you’ve been living under a rock, the plot involves animals, royalty, non-parent parental figures, betrayal, and avenging. It manages to convey concepts like guilt, responsibility, friendship, and justice beautifully with some of the best animations till date (we’re talking about the version from the ’90s, but the live-action comes pretty close with their realism).

Piku

Starring Bollywood heavyweights (Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bacchan), the refreshing story revolves around the father-daughter relationship between Padukone and Bacchan’s characters...and bowel movements! With many lighthearted and relatable moments dealing with the father’s health issues through road trips, family drama, and the eccentricities that come with age, Piku will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy.

Shubh Mangal Zyada Savdhan

Amazon.com: Watch Shubh Mangal Saavdhan | Prime Video

Another refreshing Bollywood movie, Shubh Mangal Zyada Savdhan (SMZS) is a story about a couple seeking their families’ blessings to get married and get their happily ever after. Navigating around log kya kahenges and typical Indian mindsets, SMZS does it with humour. The kicker is that the couple in the movie is homosexual, so expect homophobia unpacked and dismantled as well.

Pursuit of Happyness

Prime Video: The Pursuit of Happyness

Prime Video: The Pursuit of Happyness

Based on a true story, the Pursuit of Happyness stars Will and Jayden Smith. The American drama is a tale of determination, the entrepreneurial spirit of the lead character, humility, and the lengths he went through to secure a good future for his young son. It will pull at your and your dad’s heartstrings for sure. It might even bring out some stories from your dad’s days of youth.

You can stream the Pursuit of Happyness on Amazon Prime Video.

For light-hearted afternoon movie watching with dad, stream Like Father on Netflix. After being left on the altar on her wedding day, workaholic Rachel Hamilton (Kristen Bell) ends up spending her “romantic” honeymoon in the Caribbean with her (equally workaholic) father (Kelsey Grammer). They’re estranged at the start of the movie, so we’re treated to how they work on their relationship through comedic tipsy adventures, and good old soul searching.

Girls, do you have an overprotective dad? So does Count Dracula it would seem. In Hotel Transylvania, Dracula tries his level best to make sure his bubbly daughter doesn’t fall in love with a *gasp* human. Like all dads, he just loves his daughter and doesn’t want her to get hurt! Watch it for the lolz, entertainment, and relatability (maybe?).

Taken

If you don’t watch Taken with your Dad, or father-like figure, and get them to say, “If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career, skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it,” then what even is watching a movie with dad all about. Girls, you’ll relate to this even more. While the series of films got progressively predictable, the action is still there, and is Liam Neeson’s swagger of being a retired field agent, coming back into the game to save his daughter!

You can watch Taken, and Taken 2 on Disney+Hotstar.

Sadly, the last film starring Irrfan Khan, this one is great fun, and shows to what lengths a man will go to, to see his daughter happy. With realistic fights between the two, to usually unshown love between the father-daughter duo, it’s humorous, heartwarming, and will make you laugh and cry at the same time.

You can check Angrezi Medium out on Disney+Hotstar.

Crazy, Stupid, Love

We love this one to watch with the whole family for its mad real portrayal of how Dads are. This one captures it all so perfectly, you’ll sometimes want to hide behind the cushion, especially if you’re a youngish girl who’s still secretly dating, but pretending to not! With a solid star cast of Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, and Kevin Bacon, but most importantly Ryan Gosling...oh wait, we mentioned him, this romantic comedy-drama is a rollercoaster of emotions.
