Lowdown On The Ambience

Situated on the first floor of an old building, this restaurant is spartan, functional and extremely clean.

What's On The Menu?

The limited fish thali here needs to be ordered first. The thali comes piled with rice, one bowl of fish curry, a vegetable, a cup of buttermilk, some rasam and a touch of pickle. We asked for our thali with red rice, the healthier option, and one could get either sambar or dal depending on the day. Once the foundation of the meal was settled on, we began building on it with the delicious sides. We asked for a slice of Surma (seer fish) and Prawn Masala, both fried in fiery red masala, a dish of Crab Chilly, and Kane {ladyfish} and a plate of Silver Fish, both fried in rava {semolina}.

Fruits Of The Sea

The freshness of the seer fish and the prawns plays off beautifully with the spicy, tangy red paste of the coating and a squeeze of lime. While wrestling through the crab’s shell to get to the moist, sweet meat, we scooped up its masala of freshly-ground green chilli, sweet onion, and fleshy chunks of tomato. We took a break from these piquant dishes and dug into the ladyfish, deep fried and crunchy with the rava; we were taken aback by the crispness of the Silver Fish and recommend replacing all the potato chips in the world with this sliver of deliciousness. The simple thali plays a useful sidekick to the stars of the show: the fresh seafood. We washed it all down with a glass of fresh lime juice.

So, We're Thinking...

Hotel Fishland will always feature on the top of our list when it comes to top notch seafood in the city.
