Keeping alive the traditional block-printing method of the textile industry, Soma is the place to be for apparel, home furnishings, and bags of all kinds. A store that has its roots in Jaipur, Soma (in Ulsoor) is known for their block prints, organic cottons and home linen. I really like that their colour doesn’t bleed as much (it’s expected since it’s organic and there’s not chemicals used), and the clothes don’t shrink like many other brands.

Stocking mostly women’s apparel, from kurtas, kurtis, skirts, trousers and tunics, they also has a few options for men and kids. For the kids, check out dungarees, kurta-pajama sets and even frocks for the little miss. Men, though there isn’t too much at the Ulsoor store, you can pick up some shirts and kurtas.

If you want to be a trendy dresser but with that hint of tradition in the form of paisley, leaves, peacocks, and other Shekhawati and bold prints. Plus, they have good cuts and designs so you can easily wear them for a casual party or to a day at work. Head here for some bold and bright home linen too — from quilts, bed spreads and yoga mats to t-cosys, aprons and runners. There is a section on purely organic apparel and furnishings as well.

What Could Be Better

Unfortunately, the space is located on a crowded corner and parking a minimal, if not impossible. So use public transport to get here!

Most people don’t quite realise that Soma has some amazing bags. Executive bags — great for laptops, work and even to stuff babies things, travel bags, totes, pouches, overnighters, and backpacks are all on offer in pops of colour, block prints and even pretty florals.
