Looking for a tailor? We found a whole plaza dedicated to them. Star Plaza on Juma Masjid Road, which is just off Commercial Street, is where you need to set your Google Maps to to locate this tailoring haven. These magicians can stitch up anything from a blouse to a lehenga! A nondescript plaza with mannequins draped in salwar fabric — once you enter the ground floor or take the steps below to the basement, you will be welcomed by the cacophony of the crowd and the countless sewing machines all working furiously. You will have several tailors vying for your attention by either talking (screaming more likely) about their services and delivery period. The latter is usually between two hours and three days. They are claiming that, not us!
While these aren’t quite the official numbers, we counted roughly 50 tailoring shops for you to get a blouse (padded or non-padded) stitched, add falls to a saree, get a Kurti (simple ones) stitched for office or college, and get a full-blown lehenga (complete with embellishments and sequin work) for your BFF’s wedding stitched. You just need to come with a design and fabric and leave it to these guys to get all your stitching done. In fact, quite a number of shops in the plaza do stock up on their own fabric too and with Commercial Street just around the corner, the folks will also help you out with sourcing. The average stitching rates at these places start as low as INR 100. Lehenga stitching starts at around INR 1,000 too, so wedding season or not, you know where to get one stitched now!
