You may have come across the ‘Ajrakh’ prints without even knowing what these are. It’s a unique form of block printing using vegetable and mineral dyes done traditionally on cotton for bedsheets, bedspreads etc. This popular art form is practised in Rajasthan and Gujarat in India. You can mostly find’Ajrakh’ printing on furnishings, dress material, Sarees and such. And wouldn’t it swell if you could buy directly from an artist from the town of ‘Ajrakh’ Gujarat? Thanks to COVID we found out two artist brothers from a family of artists based in Ajrakh, Gujarat, who create beautiful stoles and Sarees on cotton and silks. The Khatri brothers learnt the art from their father who was also an Ajrakh artist. Their designs are a perfect blend of modern and traditional. They hand block and dye everything in their family-owned workshop and sell via exhibitions across India. But due to COVID they are slowly going digital and selling via Instagram. You can choose from the various designs posted on their Instagram page or wats app them to see new ones. They are constantly working on creating new designs. The stoles on Modal silks are priced a modest INR 650 and the modal silk Sarees start at a reasonable INR 3100. No third party margins and a fair price, also the satisfaction of supporting a local business So don’t just wait and gift yourself or your girlfriends or the women in your family something unique and handmade from here! Go local we say!!
