While most brands work hard to take on the trends of the West, Smitam Lifestyle traces back to our roots. Traditional crafts is the center of everything that comes out of their artisan-driven workshops, more specifically the lesser-known Kauna Craft of Manipur. We had to do a little research to learn about this cool handicraft and it turns out it fits right into three checklist items we're always looking for when buying decor or accessories - durability, sustainability and use of natural materials.
Basically, Kauna Craft is a weaving technique that takes into consideration utility and style too. Smitam Lifestyle uses eco-friendly cane, reed, jute and bamboo to make planter stands, coasters, serving trays, and storage baskets. All of which can be recycled, reused and reduced with zero carbon emission. How cool! They also craft beautiful everyday accessories like bags and clutches and hats. The aesthetic is very cottagecore meets minimalism. Since these are made from the above materials they are also waterproof and last ages (durability remember?).
