It’s only after we discovered this mini truck, did we realise that there’s literally no cheap breakfast place on the entire stretch on 12th Main. Well, thank our {and your} stars that we found one conveniently located right near our office. Located opposite the lane beside Corporation Bank, the mini-truck is just like your everyday darshini, except, in a mobile set up. Idli, vada, poori, rice bath, and pongal are what’s on the menu, with the idlis and vadas priced at INR 5 apiece. Yes, INR 5 which means a plate of idlis {two idlis} will cost you just INR 10.

The truck’s standard ‘One plate idli‘ comes with three idlis and a single vada and is priced at INR 20. Served with red and white chutney, and sambhar, it’s quite a filling breakfast we say. Pooris are made fresh and served with either potato curry or green peas masala while rice dishes come with raita. All the three dishes are priced at INR 30 per plate.

Open from 8am, the truck stays open till 11.30 am or while stocks last. The latter is highly likely as idlis and vadas get sold out almost by 10.30am. Oh, and if you love red chutney, we suggest going early. These guys do takeaways as well and you could do what we have been doing for the past couple of days — have breakfast and parcel either idlis or the pooris and have it for lunch. And trust us, it’ll all be under INR 100.
