Ten-Second Takeaway

If you think that New BEL Road is what it was five years ago, then think again! Completely transformed from the days of only mini stores near Ramaiah hospital and college, it is now brimming with cutesy cafes and bistros serving everything from coffee, burgers, pasta, hookah and much more. And like 100 Feet Road in Indiranagar, it doesn’t seem to be slowing down. So for all you North Bangalore dwellers, ditch the drive to CBD, and explore these cosy nooks. And if you’re confused, here’s our guide to the cafe culture in the area.

Truffles

Truffles is a name that has been synonymous with great cafes not only on BEL Road, but all around the city. It is always flooded with college crowds, office goers and children too! Their burgers and shakes set them apart from other cafes and they have some pretty good desserts too. Located on 80 Feet Road, the two-level cafe is well lit and cosy inside. Sit down and order a Chicken Steak Burger served with potato wafers instead of fries along with a Ferrero Rocher shake and for dessert, the Apple Pie and the Mud Pie are must-haves.

Ants Cafe

The Ants Cafe of Indiranagar and Whitefield has now opened on BEL Road as well. Along with the cafe is also a store where you can buy clothes, accessories and decor {from the North East} and maybe take a break between all that shopping and have a meal. The cafe is relatively new but has gained popularity in this area. The cafe bit is fairly small, with just a line of tables next to the products and shopping area, but the food is good nonetheless. Serving breakfast, pasta and desserts, the Ants Cafe even has events including food festivals, exhibitions and more.

Puff Cafe

A newly opened cafe, the Puff Cafe is a rooftop cafe that overlooks the green canopy of BEL Road and from there, you can sit and have some grub and sip on a coffee while the view is a perfect companion {if you’re with friends, then it’s a good backdrop for a picture}. They will also start serving hookah from Monday onwards, so make sure to look out for the cafe! The interiors are a spin on grunge, and colour, with a skeleton modelled bike at the entrance. There is some interesting graffiti and artwork hung on the walls. The decor is very colourful and the food is traditional cafe bites including a lot of fried food. There’s even some quirky plating styles!

Kargeens

Located next to the Peppermill Bistro, Kargeens will be a place remembered by BEL Road’s old guard, before it shut a few years ago. But it has now reopened and is back to its old glory days. People used to flock here for hookah and milkshakes and some grub too. They have an extensive sheesha menu and also have expanded their food menu too, with a lot of continental dishes making appearances on the menu now. It almost makes you want to say, “it’s grown up”, because from what it was to what it is now, Kargeens is here to stay.

The BEL St. Cafe

The BEL St. Cafe is another cosy little spot where you can come on a quiet evening for a cuppa and a quick snack. They even have options where you can get a larger meal, and come here for lunch or dinner. They have breakfast options and even Maggi! There’s some finger food, burgers, pizza and combo meals too, for some saving on the price. The cafe is a quiet and quaint place, which isn’t really much of a happening place in terms of crowd, but is good for a quiet hangout.

Cafe Rossini

Cafe Rossini is located close to Truffles and is an Italian cafe that is just ideal for an afternoon meal with a friend or even a quiet date. Along with Italian cuisine that it mainly serves, there is also some Chinese and Continental options on the menu. There are also some coffees, teas and coolers served here that are nice for an evening coffee in the glorious Bangalore weather. The interiors make it seem like a fine dining restaurant but the menu makes it look like a cafe, so you’re in a spot where the ambience is comforting and you don’t pay much for the food either.

Everybody’s favourite pizza spot, Onesta is also on New BEL Road, unsurprisingly. With their excellent menu of pizzas, quick bites, pasta and dessert, it is probably one of Bangalore’s most popular cafes and hangout spots. They’ve also got offers including name of the week where you could get a free meal if your name matches and also some unlimited offers where you can get unlimited pizzas starting at INR 329! It’s also a nice Instagram spot, located on the rooftop.

Grubbery

Grubbery is a cafe located on the first floor, on New BEL Road. They’ve got seating overlooking the road and under the canopy, for some relaxed times with a coffee and something to eat. Also, the walls are donned with really cute and cool artwork of a bear hard at work in the kitchen and the menu is stacked. From all-day breakfast to Asian and Continental food too, you’ve got such a large choice, it might take a while to scan the menu and place an order. And you can come here for breakfast, lunch, dinner and even snacks and the list of dishes is endless. The cafe is quite reasonably priced and you can get a Wholesome Breakfast {Fried eggs/Scrambled eggs/Omelette, baked beans, grilled tomatoes and mushrooms, chicken sausages and buttered toast} for INR 240. Who to bring along, you ask? A date, a friend, many friends or a book, this is apt for all of them.
