What Makes It Awesome

Bangalore's microbreweries are often associated with being the biggest, largest, with a golf course, and whatnot. At Hebbal, the Neo-classical Roman-themed Candles BrewHouse is calling itself the highest microbrewery in the city. And on our once-in-a-quarter visit to Hebbal, we went up to the 12th floor of the Azure building where Candles is located to see what's all the fuss about. The Roman theme is all around the space with statues, carved columns, and fresco work. You will find folks getting their pictures taken in various spots, especially the centre column that features a winged sculpture. The rooftop brewery offers views of the Hebbal Lake and the bustling traffic, but come evenings, you can catch the setting sun — so maybe a Sunday sundowner here with the gang one of these days?

The menu is inspired by the Silk Route, so there's a bit of everything for everyone. We didn't parse through the entire menu, we need to come back with a bigger group if we are to try a lot more but of the things we had we leaned more towards the Asian and Mediterranean sections. From the finger food section, Spice Trade which is a satay situation, and Candles Fried Chicken, a take on Korean Fried Chicken, are our picks. We wanted to try the Spicy Seafood Spaghetti, so we made a note of it to try the next time. There's a local section too or 'Naati' delights and Naati Mutton Chops and Chicken Ghee Roast are something we know will pair well with the craft beer.

Last we checked, on tap, you have the usual suspects of Belgian Wit and Stout. A few months back, we heard they had a Pineapple Beer, so look out for their seasonal brews.

We are heading back to try more of their food and cocktails, and we shall report back shortly.
