Chundam Vallam? If You Have No Clue What That Is, Then Pack Your Bags And Head To Alleppey For The Boat Race

What's Happening

It's one of the quintessential cultural experiences that you must do when in Kerala. The famed Nehru Trophy Boat Race is back for its 66th edition and if you wan't watched vallam kali (boat sports), then this is the event that you need to be attending. Happening in the famed backwaters of Alleppey, the event is best known for the Chundam Vallam (snake boat) race which takes place. These snake boats which are anywhere between 100 to 120 feet carrying over 90 rowers all rowing in unison. Quite a spectacle and with fanfare that too with cheering squads attached to each boats playing music and cheering the rowers. It's one of those picture perfect moments that would make shutterbug happy! Fun fact: Did you know the event is touted to be the world's largest team sport as well? Yeah, it's that cool! 

How's The Venue

The event will be happening on the 1.4 km water course in Punnamada Lake. You can stay at Zostel Alleppey which is just under five kilometers from the lake. 

Price Includes

The tickets are priced at INR 100 onwards and is inclusive of only entry. The higher priced tickets include seating and refreshments. 

Make A Note

If you want to get the best experience of the boat race, the best spots in the venue are Tourist and Rose spot (check the website for more information) and since seating is first come first served, we suggest arriving early to get the best seats in the house.
