Dragon Rolls To Devil Lamb: Chung Wah Is Bangalore's First Love When It Comes To Chinese Food

Aditi posted on 28 April

Shortcut

Like it or loathe it, you simply cannot ignore Chung Wah! Actually, you can’t really loathe the greasy Indian Chinese food that they’ve been doling out in the city, for over two decades now, either!

What Is It?

Long before the fancy Oriental, Pan-Asian or region specific trendy restaurants came along, Bangalore was entirely dependent on Chung Wah, for Chinese food that was food for the soul. And with a restaurant on almost every street corner, with no frills, this is a real iconic chain in the city. Serving up delicious, and very Indianised South East Asian food, I can’ ever get enough of the Chilli Chicken, deep fried Gobi Manchurian, Dragon Rolls, Crispy Devil Lamb and that oh-so-oily Fried Rice. And they do delivery, so this was, is and possibly always will be the go-to place when ordering home for a party.

Who Is It For?

If you’re having an impormptu party, Chung Wah will sort you out with everything from starters and soup to wholesome Chinese, Thai or Indonesian meals. While new restaurants bring in authentic Oriental food, expect good old Indianised Chinese here. In fact, it’s sometimes what I crave more than real Chinese. So if you’re like me and nothing but Chilli Chicken gravy will solve your problem, head here or order in.

What Is The Ambience Like?

Decked out in red, black and gold, almost every Chung Wah outlet look identical. While not too many people eat in-house now, because the standards have certainly gone down in terms of cleanliness, and unfortunately hygeine, home-delivery is the way to go. My logic here is, what I don’t know {or can’t see in the kitchen}, can’t hurt me!

Must Eat

Gobi/Chicken Manchurian, Chilli Chicken, Crispy Devil Lamb, Kung Pao Chicken, Chilli Potato

How Was My Experience?

I admit that I can’t really eat at the restaurants anymore because it is a bit grimy, and when you have a little daughter around, it’s not very smart. But I can’t complain about the quality of food both in hte restaurant or through home delivery. It’s prompt, well-packed and always comes hot so you don’t need to reheat anything. That’s a great plus when you’re throwing a party! Besides, the food is exaclty what I call comfort food — filling, spicy and delicious.

#LBBTip

When you order in, make sure to ask for extra sauces. No matter how massive your order, they seem to think one spoon is enough for 20 people!
