Following in the footsteps of Church Street, Bangalore's most popular shopping zone, Commercial Street is also soon going to be a dreamy cobblestone street. And the best part is that the BBMP has decided to make it a vehicle-free road! Shoppers, this is your collective prayers being answered. Those worrying about where to park, this is your opportunity to use the metro; the closest stop will be MG Road, which is about 1 kilometre away.
Plans to lay cobblestones on the 750 metre street, from Kamaraj Road to Jama Masjid Road, will materialise as soon as February (pending approval, of course), and apparently the work should be complete before the elections a few months later. Fingers crossed that it actually happens in the proposed timeframe. We all know how long good old Church Street took! Either way, we're already dreaming about shopping for jewellery, shoes, clothes and even lingerie, without the noise of car horns.
