Commercial Street Goes Vehicle-Free Once A Month!

Ten-second takeaway

Shop at leisure without worrying about the blare of that upcoming car or cars. Thanks to the Bangalore Traffic Police, Commercial Street is set to go vehicle-free on second Sundays.

It's a double whammy

According to Bangalore Mirror, you can look forward to Commercial Street going vehicle-free either on December 13 or December 20. That's not all. You can also expect a range of entertainment and activities, including special food and beverage stalls. It's looking like quite a carnival! A representative of the street's traders told the Mirror more: "The second Sunday of the month will become a complete pedestrian zone for the entire day — from 10am to 10pm…We are in talks with an NGO and an event management company to chalk out fun and entertainment for our shoppers."

Where the streets have no cars

This reminds us of Open Streets Bengaluru when it was held in HSR Layout, which saw tonnes of very happy pedestrians excited. The initiative is meant to bring back some of the charm of shopping on our city's high-streets, so be sure to ditch any mall plans when this happens.

We'd love several shopping areas in the city following Commercial Street's footsteps. For instance, Malleswaram 8th Cross, Church Street, and Indiranagar 100 Feet Road.
