Close to Commercial Street, Kamaraj Road is an antique haven that’s dotted with shops showcasing furniture and curios. Among them, Sakthi Antiques specialises in vintage clocks that have been sourced from around the world — from Germany to Pondicherry. The compact shop sources, restores and markets all styles of clocks. Apart from grand clocks, turn your attention to the shelves where you can pick from old-school, bedside alarm clocks or elegant, mantel pieces with quirky, revolving pendulums.
When you step in, you’ll spot a tall, grandfather clock with a heavily ornate pendulum. On the walls, you can spot cuckoo clocks that are a little bigger than your palm and even mechanical ones. But most of the space is taken up two-key and three-key clocks (many of these are also musical) from brands like The Madhura Watch House, Mauthe Clock Company, and Kienzle. Prices start at about INR 4,000 but do note that the three-key clocks can cost INR 15,000 or above.
