When Bharatanatyam dancer and actor, Rukmini Vijayakumar is behind a venture, you can rest assured it will be for artistes of all kinds. And LshVa is exactly that. Considered “A Space for Artists”, the charming place is rooted in Indian traditions of the arts. It aims to be a place where ‘artists and connoisseurs meet, ponder, train and experiment’. Two studios, a library space and an outdoor cafe area make up the homey artsy space, and with Grecian white-blue walls, the sunlight and Gulmohar flowers all taking turns to inspire you, it is a charming canvas.
Through collaboration, education, residencies and performance, LshVa activities (through guest sessions, workshops, and classes) will focus on Classical Indian dance, Contemporary Dance, Kalaripayattu, Theater, Yoga and other performing and visual arts. The space is also home to the Raadha Kalpa Dance Company, the LshVa Collective and LshVa Theater. And if you’re already into Bharatnatyam, The Classical Roots Intensive led by Rukmini, also the Artistic Director of the Raadha Kalpa Dance Company, is a great session to learn technique, strength and subtlety of expression.
