What Is Happening

Dastkar is back in Bangalore after what feels like a long time (2021 does feel a long time back). As usual, they’ve curated crafts and wares from about 20 states across the country, in addition to a few international ones too. We also hear there will be 20 never-seen-before artisans, so make sure you hit up the bazaar at Jayamahal Palace.

Explore Kantha embroidery and terracotta products from West Bengal. You'll find Pattachitra and Palm Paintings from Odisha. Don't miss out on Bagru, wrought iron decor from Chattisgarh, chikankaari outfits from Uttar Pradesh, Jamdaani and Benarasi weaves from Uttar Pradesh, Kanjivaram from Tamil Nadu and intricate suf and rabari embroideries from Kala Raksha, Kutch, and plenty more.

If you’re looking for Madhubani paintings, seashell products, terracotta merchandise, Ikat weaves to wear and deck up the house with recycled fabric, leatherwork, miniatures and lots of indigenous jewellery, this is your chance to snap it all up, under one roof. Dabu, Indigo block printing, patchwork, Shibori and Kota weaving from Rajasthan. We’re also looking forward to the gorgeous Ari and Sozni embroidery from Jammu and Kashmir. Plus, pashmina!

Of course, there will be plenty of representation from Karnataka too, and you can get khadi and handloom apparel and furnishings, wood carvings and mural paintings too. Oh, and like we said, international offerings! Carpets, jewellery and dry fruits will be coming in all the way from Afghanistan. It does not get more authentic!

Anything Else?

When you’re done shopping, or for a break before round 2, there’s also a food court for varied cuisines. As well as a few cultural programmes that include demonstrations, workshops, and dance and music performances. To learn more about a few crafts, head to the sessions on block printing, Solapith flower making, kite making, papier-mache, chappal and jutti making. Learn well enough and soon you can be showcasing at Dastkar next! The sessions are on between 3 pm and 6 pm, daily. A few paid sessions are also on the schedule. Think miniature painting, soap making and more at INR 200, on May 28 and 29, between 3 pm and 6 pm.

When: May 27 to June 2, 10:30 am to 8:30 pm

Where: Jayamahal Palace Hotel
