EDO at ITC Gardenia has been one of the best Japanese restaurants in Bangalore for the longest time, and amongst many LBB users, it is the go-to place for sushi or when they want to treat themselves to a lavish Japanese meal. For most of 2025, they were closed, but in July, they opened, and how. The once traditional-looking Japanese restaurant has undergone a complete makeover, while still retaining the EDO touch on the menu front, and the experience. We dined on preview night, and here’s how good it was.
EDO At ITC Gardenia Is Back With A Tokyo After Dark Mood And Elevated Japanese Fare
The Space
We’ve almost forgotten what pre-2025 EDO looked like because, as we were telling Sheena Sharma, the PR Manager for ITC, who was also our host for the night, it’s been a while since we set foot here. But as we talked through the torii gates, it gave the feeling that this new EDO is here to make a statement. Channelling the Tokyo after-night mood, the space gets fitted out with ambient lighting with a very cool purple haze running around. There are plenty of photo-op corners and spaces (we do like the bright red entrance), and there are Japanese pop-art donning the walls. Tokyo’s famed for neon lights, and that’s showcased here, but without being garish. There are private dining spaces, perfect for those after-work parties. And there’s an outdoor space too. It’s flanked by the teppanyaki counter. Bangalore weather and dinner with drama? What more do you need for a fun night out? We picked a table from where we could have a 180-degree view of the sushi counter, bar, the DJ console, and the teppanyaki counter — the best of all worlds.
The Menu
Sheena, and Chef Amit Patra, who’s been at the helm for a while, made it very clear that EDO is known for its authentic Japanese food, and they haven’t played around with that. Just elevated it to a new level in line with the izakaya philosophy. Since Japanese food is all about the ingredients, Chef Amit really went all out in serving us over 15 dishes that allowed us to experience what the menu is all about — fresh flavours, textural elements, premium ingredients, and a bit of drama.
Somewhere in between the courses, we were joined by Amandeep Kaur, General Manager for ITC Gardenia, whom we had previously met at the opening of Cajsa, ITC Gardenia’s European and global fine-dining space. Amandeep told us that the point of this makeover was to bring in fresh energy and reposition EDO as more than just a place for Japanese food. She wants you to come in for a meal, stay for the drinks, listen to the live music, and then make plans to come back again.
On the drinks front, it’s an anime-inspired cocktail menu. No, really, from a Naruto-inspired one to One Piece, there’s a lot to savour. Lest we forget, the moment you walk in, you’re offered a welcome drink, and you say “kanpai” and let the good times roll.
The Food
We weren’t kidding when we told you Chef Amit really went all out. While we’d love to walk you through all the dishes we tried, in the interest of word limit, here are the highlights in no particular order. If you like the idea of tableside cooking, then definitely order the Lamb Hot Stone, where delicately sliced lamb is prepared on a hot stone in front of you by the chef, and it’s served with velvety mash. We avoid vegetables like how kids avoid broccoli, but the Sweet Potato with Yuzu Creme and the Avocado Tartare on Crispy Rice Cakes had us going back for more veggies.
Chef Amit didn’t hold back when he served us the Braised & Grilled Pork Belly, the Hokkaido Scallops with a beautiful pumpkin sauce, and the Fuji Oysters, which are imported directly from Japan. We’ve to take a moment to talk about the oysters, because these are some of the best oysters we’ve eaten this year, and it’s so simple — just lightly cooked in sweet soy sauce. And he served us three. Oh and the scallops, we mopped the plate clean.
Shout out to the Chutoro Tuna Sashimi, such plump slices of tuna that we couldn’t get enough of. We ended the night at the teppanyaki counter with the chef making us a portion of fried rice and grilled tofu with tobanjan sauce. Or so we thought, until dessert was served. A very bold Matcha Tres Leches, that even though we don’t have a sweet tooth, almost asked for one more.
Final Thoughts
EDO is back, and we are here for it. It’s not your everyday spot, but it’s definitely your spot for those fun nights and when you want to paint the town red. You’ll come in for the food, and stay back for those little experiences that make the night a whole lot memorable.
