Ten-second takeaway
Traditional and modern blues with hints of jazz, pop and soul await you at this performance by Finnish guitarist, Erja Lyytinen.
Feeling blue
Watch any video of Finnish blues artiste, Erja Lyytinen effortlessly strumming the slide guitar, tapping her feet to the beats and singing along, and it becomes clear why she was described as 'the Finnish slide goddess' by Blues Magazine. Having started playing the guitar at the age of 15, she released her debut album, Attention!, in 2002. Apart from traditional and modern blues which seems to define her musical style, Erja also experiments with jazz, pop and soul. Giving you a chance to get a firsthand experience of her music, she will be in town as part of a tour, joined by artistes Antii Ikola, Kai Johiako and Tatu Back.
Listen in
Known for her heartfelt lyrics and enthusiastic performances, we can't wait to watch her onstage, playing tracks like Forbidden Fruit with its multiple layers and sonic textures. We're also hoping to hear some of the covers from her album, The Sky Is Crying, a tribute to popular American blues guitarist, Elmore James. This includes rarely covered tracks like Sho Nuff I Do and Hand in Hand, sung in her unique accent and style.
