A food carnival and exploration of Coorg during monsoon is what this gastronomical experience promises at Mitra Homestay in Madikeri. Organised by Megha Deokule (a health and regional food enthusiast and food blogger, also known as Ace Foodie), this trip will offer a chance to forage for ingredients, cook them into authentic Kodava cuisine and then eat it too. The trip is happening for 2 nights and 3 days at Megha’s family homestay near Madikeri in a coffee plantation.

What Is It?
Who Is It For?
We are looking at you “foodies” — those who love to explore regional cuisine and discover the farm (or forest) to fork approach to eating. Megha also says that if you are a food blogger, an agriculturist, or even a photographer or a nature lover, you are going to love this trip.
Why Should I Sign Up?
There are usually heavy rains from June to September and the Kodavas have battled this season with a lot of work in the fields and forests. They would wander into the forest in search of fresh bamboo shoots, mushrooms, crabs, wild ferns, colocasia leaves, and medicinal plants — for instance the madde thoppe, a purple black medicinal food preparation, if made right can apparently have 18 kinds of herbal medicinal properties. So wear gumboots for this exploration. When it comes to food, expect both vegetarian and non vegetarian home cooked meals with everything from a farmer’s breakfast (farm to plate) with akki otti, bamboo shoot curry and sesame chutney to authentic Coorg dishes such as the kadambattu with pandi (pork) curry. And you will also get to taste a of foraged produce too.
