From The Permit Room To Plan B: Geist Is On Tap And Here’s Where To Get The Craft Beer

The information in this post might be outdated

Hurrah! Geist is back and how. Forget those cool bottles that they used to come in. The craft beer is officially on tap. And you know what that means? Copious amounts of the three different brews, any time you like. The Uncle Dunkle is the Dunkelwiezen, a dark German style ale, which is malty with hints of sweet and spice, The Weiss Guy is an all-out easy Hefeweizen that is a wheat beer for the smooth finish; pick this one if you like a lighter drink that isn’t very bitter either. Then there is the Witty Wit which is a Belgian ale, slightly tart, lemony and crisp.

While they are available at plenty of places across town now, here’s our pick of where to get the best of the beer with food, ambience and fun to match.

The Permit Room

In true Permit Room style, we suggest to simply go and put some here. The Dunklewiezen with its rich, malty flavour is best had with spicy, and meaty dishes. We’re thinking the Highway Pandi Curry, or even the Goa Prawn/fish curry. If you’re the Weiss Guy type order the Urban Kosambari Salad {with feta cheese} to complement the sweetish beer, and then thank us for the kindness later! For those of you looking to indulge in witty banter, have the Belgian ale with not-so-spicy dishes, it really brings out the flavours of the drink and the food. Try Haleem Samosa, Idiyappam Rolls or perhaps the Donne or Bhatkal biryani. Cheers!

Hangover

This friendly-neighbourhood bar in Indiranagar is known for its old-school vibes. And nothing highlights those more than beer. So bring on the Chicken Tikka, Chilli Beef and Desmond’s Biryani, and guzzle some Geist with that too.

Plan B

Don’t think twice here. Just order the Chicken Wings with the Spicy Garlic or the Naked Peri Peri sauce, and pick The Uncle Dunkle to go with it. If you’re having a burger, then the Weiss Guy is the way to go here.

Bootlegger

Potato Skins with bacon bits, Super Spicy Wings or any pizza will go well with these craft beers, and specifically the Dunklewiezen if it’s anything spicy. They have some England favourites — Bangers And Mash and Fish N Chips, so if you order those, do pick the Weiss Guy.

House Of Commons

No matter what dish you pick here, the beers will go well with it. Why? Because the whole menu is really designed to complement bar nibbles. From nachos and Chicken with Devilled Sauce to Thai Chicken Satays and Chicken Supreme, it’s all on point.
