What Makes It Awesome

Armed with ladles and other cooking equipment at a tender age when her peers would often toy with kitchen sets, Praveena has inherited a vibrant cooking culture from her grandmother who’d make sweets and mixtures for the former. Rootly Foods is more of an emotional connect with her grandmother that she now wants to share with you through the brand’s urundai (ladoos). Buoyed by granny’s recipes, warmth and love for scrumptious sweets and munchies, Rootly Foods sells Ellu Urundai (black sesame seed ladoos) and Kadalai Urundai (peanut ladoos).

Rootly Foods is a women-owned and women centric brand and it drives employment for women in and around Salem (where it’s based). Its products are made fresh upon order in sunflower oil and sold in reusable tin containers. The ingredients are also sourced locally with many handpicked from their own farm! The brand’s Ellu Urundai, ladoos made from sesame seeds is imbued with oily goodness of sesame with sweetness balanced from jaggery. There's also the Kadalai Urundai, peanut ladoos that are creamy like nutty peanut butter but much healthier due to the use of jaggery. We even love the newly launched Kalyanam Ladoos that are basically boondi ladoos with the flavour of rose and spices, best for functions and family get-togethers.

All their products are prepared using olden techniques like slow roasting, hand-pounding and fire-wood cooking to retain maximum nutrients and flavour. Sold in 250g containers, these sweet treats are sold for INR 200 (you get seven urundais/ladoos per container).
