Nicobar has opened its biggest store yet, in Bangalore, and we tell you what to shop for yourself, for your home and your travels.
Good Earth's Nicobar Has Landed In Bangalore With A Physical Store
Shortcut
What's In Store?
What used to be the first floor of the Good Earth store on Walton Road is now home to Nicobar. Younger and sassier, and with a wearable collection with emphasis on cuts, textiles, and a global gypsy aesthetic, it’s different from its predecessor. Walking in is like walking through Portland-based indie lifestyle magazine Kinfolk‘s pages — with a slightly Scandinavian, minimalist aesthetic perked up by warm wooden interiors, cheery Indian colours, fabrics and a laid back atmosphere.
If you shop online on Nicobar already, then the clothes may look familiar; we didn’t spot any new collection. But they do introduce new looks quite frequently on their site and we are hoping the same for their physical store. But unlike online, the store stocks XL sizes for most pieces. Shirt dresses, easy breezy tops, kurtas, overlays, and maxis are aplenty, made of fabrics {mostly cotton and some silks} lovingly treated with tie-dye techniques, ikat, and even Chanderi, with a small section dedicated to silk sarees and crop tops.
For The Intrepid Traveller
The travel section comprises shrugs, shirts, loose, anti-fit pants and shirts with some really gorgeous cotton canvas totes, overnighters, toilet and make up pouches. We also loved a section dedicated to travel-themed books — think sleek city guides, design books and indie magazines. Enough inspiration and nudge for you to start planning your next trip, kitted out in Nicobar clothes and accessories, of course. Men, we spotted some comfy cotton shirts and chinos for you too.
Home Is Where The Art Is
But our favourite section has to be the House & Home section with beautiful ceramics such as coffee mugs, quarter plates {we scored ourselves some charming polka dotted ones}, bright yellow tea pots, cake stands and cloches, tea sets, noodle bowls and more. You will spot cute motifs, such as fireflies, tigers, and koi, all through the collection. Those who love to plate their food and “Insta” it before they eat it, will love this section for pretty props. The kitchenware is reasonably priced too.
So, We're Thinking...
Browsing the store is quite a breeze thanks to the helpful staff, mirrors positioned strategically throughout the store and a couple of settees for you to rest between outfit trials.
