Green’s Guesthouse is a merry little home in Auroville that is perfect for backpackers and budget travellers, with a mixed dorm and private rooms on offer at great prices.

Going Green

Right on Auroville’s Main Road, Green’s Guesthouse is a centrally located property that speaks to the traveller in us. An old-school home with walls painted a mossy green and tiled sloping roofs, the space is a charming pitstop for backpackers and travellers staying in town. With plants peeking out of every corner and a nice garden space with a walkway running through, we get why it’s called Green’s Guesthouse. It’s got a lovely sun terrace that overlooks the garden and an outdoor fireplace to gather round too.

Their mixed dorm has 12 beds and a single bed will cost you only INR 400 per night. Apart from the tariff, the thought of rooming with other cool travellers has us excited. They do have air-conditioned private rooms on offer as well, starting at INR 1,200 per night for a single room. And yes, there’s free WiFi. Travelling in a group? They have double rooms, triple rooms and a junior suite too. Some of the rooms come with a private balcony or terrace. But we still think this place is best suited to lone travellers as they’re very highly rated for one-person stays and there’s a nice sense of community here.

Go And Explore

A stone’s throw away from all the action, Green’s Guesthouse is only a short trip away from Matrimandir, Sri Aurobindo Hand Made Paper Factory and the Pondicherry Museum if you’re looking to soak in some culture. You can even rent bikes from here and wheel around exploring the town. Take a trip to the beach or engage in a spot of horse riding if you’re feeling up to it, as that’s an activity that’s offered in the area. Looking to stay put at the property? Sign up for a yoga class, get a soothing massage or curl up on the hammock in the garden a book you can pick up from their library. When your tummy starts rumbling, head on down to their on-site restaurant or coffee house to keep the munchies at bay.
