Weaving Workshop At Registry Of Sarees

Shortcut

The Registry Of Sarees is hosting a ten day workshop on handloom weaving at their Research and Study Centre, so you can now weave your own fabric.

What Makes It Awesome

Things that are Made In India have been cool ever since Alisha Chinai said so over 20 years ago, and when it comes to Indian Handlooms, we’re in full agreement. The Registry Of Sarees  Research and Study Centre wants the art of creating handlooms to be more accessible to the Indian public.

Sign up for ten day course for an intensive and immersive learning experience where you can create your own handwoven fabric, under the guidance of weavers. The first five days of the workshop will include introduction to weaving (obviously), the nature of weaving, the effects of using different materials and patterns on the final product; basically the techniques, basics, and processes involved. These are full day sessions from 11am to 5pm (with a lunch break in between, don’t worry). On the 20th will be a field excursion to understand the preparation and story of weaving and loom work, right from the sourcing.

The final leg of the workshop is for you to finally make your free flowing fabric. This could be a scarf, stole, textile (that you can get stitched into whatever you want later), or even art. The cost of the  course is INR 25,000, which includes ten classes, materials, notes and resources, tea, snacks, and cost of the field excursion too. You will need to bring your own lunch however. You can sign up by writing to malini@theregistryofsarees.com or register on their website.

What Could Be Better

Only five people are allowed to sign up for each session at a time.

Pro-Tip

You will also have access to their table looms and extra resources for the duration of the workshop on rent.
