These One-Of-A-Kind Handmade Clutches Will Make You Stand Out This Festive Season
Shortcut
Bag It
Born out of Swati’s fascination for her grandmother and other ladies of the house getting dolled up for weddings, Diwali parties and family get-togethers, their bags were something that always stood out. You see, all the ladies apparently waited for an occasion to flaunt their gorgeous bags. So Swati decided that one shouldn’t have to wait for an event. Have it? Flaunt it, she says! Hence the name Pitaarawali. Crafted by local weavers and artisans, this brand also uses local supplies and suppliers making it that much more appealing. Well for us, at least.
Designing the pitaaras herself, she has meticulously ensured that they can go straight from a Diwali party to a pub that same evening. Oh yeah, we love a versatile bag. Most of the clutches are made from silk, cotton, and velvet, but when she’s really creative, you can expect wool and handknits to dominate the collection. In fact, some of them, you can use as your daily wallet or purse to keep yourself chic at all times — practical and quirky.
Material Girl
Inspired a lot by travel but not limited to that, you’ll find that the motifs span everything from wildlife and nature to architecture and geometric patterns. And the best part? You won’t find two of a kind. The mini differences come in the form of subtle embroidery, changes in colour of the silk threads, of the glass beads or more distinguishable on the kundan.
We’re currently eyeing the Haathi 2.0, a quirky and casual clutch that is perfect to brighten up any outfit. Pink and red elephants roam on a black silk base, and randomly placed flower motifs give it that edgy look. There’s also the more sober but striking collection from the Himalayan range which use the trademark thick fabric made by Tibetan weavers. Think striped weaves that feature every colour you can imagine, or the delicate silk-brocade that you’d otherwise associate with China. We also like the light envelope clutches that will slip into your handbag and impress when you take it out to pay the luncheon bill.
Spoiled For Choice
Are you the girly girl? Pick the Lotus Pond. A pleasant shade of fern green, set in a silk brocade fabric, this piece is a classic. Whatever you do though DO NOT buy the Jhumar. It’s a denim base with little jhumikis on them. We say don’t buy it because we want it! It’s so offbeat we’d love to call it our own. OK, fine, buy it. It’s quite irresistible! See, you’re already matching them to your outfits, aren’t you?
