Our moody weather always calls for hot, brothy, steamy food no? The Hungry Himalayan is a Bhutanese home kitchen based out of Whitefield that is really the perfect solution for you. What do they have? Thukpa, soft steamed buns, and let’s not forget momos!
Outside of the fact that you have to place an order 24 hours in advance (especially for some elements that require fermentation), the kitchen really satiates any cravings you have for hot, flavourful food. Vegetarians, there are a bunch of options for you including Ema Datshi and Kewa Datshi - that include molten cheese and chilli. The Mushroom Shapta (also available in chicken and pork variants) comes with flavourful pillowy Tingmos that go amazingly well with the peppery curry. The momos are absolute flavour bombs, and are available as steamed, fried (pan or deep), and with a whole wheat shell option that you’ll definitely have trouble sharing! Should you want to go bigger, try their Taipos. Momo-Thukpa lovers, they have Thukpa Bhaktuk available in chicken, veg, and pork variants. The noodles in this are made similar to gnocchi (and this is best enjoyed the day it’s made and delivered).
The spices used are authentic Tibetan and Bhutanese, as are the preparations, and yes you get chopsticks with your order. Place an order on their online store, and if you’re within 5km of the area, the delivery is free. Prices are within INR 320 and completely worth the portion size.
