Improv Comedy Bangalore: When Humour, Music And Fun Themes Come Together

A group that specialises in improv, blending comedy with spontaneity, Improv Comedy Bangalore has quite a lot up its sleeve to crack you up.

If you love the wit and humour that comes with many impromptu performances, then you’ll likely enjoy the acts by the group, Improv Comedy Bangalore. Started in 2014 by city-based artiste, Nasir Engineer {who was part of India’s first improv troupe, Improv Comedy Mumbai}, the team currently has four other members — Rohit Nair, Abhishek Desai, Madhu Shukla and Shrirupa Sengupta.

Going all out to entertain their audience, these folks make sure that they keep their performances catchy and smart, avoiding stereotyped humour. Since there’s the lively participation of the audience adding to the mix with suggestions and situations, it just gets all the more fun! While Nasir admits to having had quite a few awkward moments on stage {it’s unscripted, after all}, they mostly end up being hilarious. But it’s not just jokes and comic instances that you’ll get to see at their show. Also part of the team are musicians, Benson Chacko, Vijay and George who play live improvised music to go with the act.

Apart from having performed across some of the popular venues in the city, the group also has a bi-monthly session of Improv in the Park which lets people watch, learn or even try their hand at improv. We love the varied themes they choose. Be it a Christmas-based musical improv performance, a horror comedy for Halloween or even ones for Mothers’ Day and April Fools’ Day, they are bound to crack you up. We hear they have another one coming up soon, and this time around, it’s going to be a show on Lord Of The Rings meets Indian mythology, soap operas and, basically, the Indian way of life. We’re keeping an eye out for this one!
