Geeks Ahoy! There's An Indie Comic Book Festival Happening And You've Got To Be There

What Is It?

Black Panther, Thor and Thanos may currently be ruling the roost, but come May 20, the Srishti Institute of Art Design and Technology will be hosting an indie comic event, for you all-out geeks. Called The Indie Comix Fest, it’s powered by The Art in Transit project by the institute itself. The day-long event will have panel discussions, live music and art, and of course, sale and distribution of indie comic books. If ever there was a need for geeks to unite, it is now!

Who Is It For?

Perfect for comic book enthusiasts who are more into the form of art that just Marvel and DC, The Indie Comix Fest is all about shining the spotlight on the lesser or even currently unknown. If you’ve been hiding away your first work of art, and have been secretly waiting for the opportunity to showcase your comic book series, come out come out where ever you are — this is the perfect platform for you!

Why Should I Go For It?

Because there’s more to comic books than Tintin, Archie and The Avengers. Don’t get us wrong, we love those too. But when India has always had their own local comic books, and an endless bank of stories to tell — fictional, real, mythical and personal, so we are hoping to get some great comics out of this event. You can stock up books from everyone from painter and street artist Anpu Varkey and Sruti Menon to BlueJackals situation comics and Bangalore’s all-time favourite, Appupen. We also think that it’s an excellent platform for independent artists and creators to showcase their work, and hopefully this will result in a boom in the comic book market. Sure Superheroes are great, but it’s time for a new world order, no? Forget Asgard and Themiscyra, India, your time is now!
