Mahavishnu comes to town
Even if you've not heard him, you've probably heard of him. John McLaughlin has had a decades-long career as a guitarist, bandleader, and composer. The 73-year-old guitarist has played with iconic musicians such as Miles Davis, Jimi Hendrix, Ravi Shankar, and Zakir Hussain. Mahavishnu Orchestra and Shakti, his landmark jazz-fusion projects, have been hugely influential. He's playing as part of a jazz festival organised by the good folks at Counterculture. The lineup includes Kanchan Daniel and the Beards, Dhruv Ghanekar, and the Leslie Charles Trio. Quite a coup, we think.
