The Only One-Day Kabini Guide You Need When You Visit Home Of Tuskers And Tigers
Overview
How To Get To Kabini
Kabini is easily accessible by road and it takes about four hours by road from Bangalore to reach here. Alternatively, if you don't want to drive, you can take the train, Mysuru Express from KSR Bangalore to Mysore Junction. From Mysore, it's just about 60 kilometres by road and there are KSRTC buses available. You can also fly into Bangalore or Mysore airport as well.
Kabini River
You can't visit Kabini and not see the Kabini River (it's also nearly impossible to not see it). You can sit by the river banks and soak up all that fresh air and scenic views. On some days, if you are lucky you will spot animals such as elephants. Plenty of birds too. There are coracle and motorboat services and you can pick either and experience the river. Come evenings, the spot is great for catching the sunset. You might see plenty of amateur photographers going about their thing here.
Kabini Wildlife Reserve
You can do a jungle safari at the Kabini Wildlife Reserve and if you are lucky you might spot tigers, jaguars, elephants, deer, and the elusive and rare black leopard. The reserve sits by the Kabini River and during summers, you will find the water levels have dropped and there are plenty of animals out in the open to feed.
Kabini Backwaters
The backwaters and the surrounding land around it are perfect for you to explore on foot or on cycles that you can rent. If you are staying at any of the properties such as The Bison or The Serai, then there are some tours and guides that these resorts offer to the guests at an additional price.
Kutta
Kutta is a quaint hamlet near Kabini that you can drive down to if you are feeling too cooped up in your hotel room. It has proper countryside vibes along with good food — mostly Kodagu-style food. Plus, you can find plenty of greens. Since it's close to Nagarhole National Park, if you have time, try and visit the park.
Resorts In Kabini
If you are planning on staying at Kabini longer, then there are plenty of resorts in Kabini that you can check into. Some of our favourite resorts in Kabini that we like to splurge on and enjoy the best of what Kabini has to offer include The Serai and The Bison. The Serai has private cottages, spa, creature comforts, and great spots to be outdoor without the lack of any amenities you crave (hello hot water!). The Bison is located in the middle of Bandipur and Nagarhole national parks, and what's great about them is that they offer safaris at these national parks including a night safari.
