What Makes It Awesome

Sitting pretty just outside the historical township of Srirangapatna, Karighatta is a hidden gem that offers trekking trails and scenic views. For those of you who love to roam the outdoors on the weekends and holidays, here’s another destination to add to your ‘must-visit’ list. Relatively unknown when compared to other getaways around the city, Karighatta is at a short distance from Srirangapatna and can be reached via Mysore as well, we hear it's just 27km away.

Karighatta is easily accessible by bike. For once, you’ve got smooth roads and you might even enjoy navigating the slightly tricky hairpin bends that take you to the top of the hill. You can hike up Karighatta and this is one trek even the novices can triumph at. Just be sure to not go in a gang as COVID might gang up on you.

When you’ve made your way to the top, you can lap up the picturesque views the Karighatta peak has to offer. All around you can see vast stretches of green and serene hills. You can even spot a tributary of Cauvery (Lokapavani) flowing by. The hilltop is also home to a temple that you can offer prayers at or look at for historical and cultural values. However, if you are looking for a place to bring out that picnic basket. We recommend you head straight to Mahadevpura, around 20 minutes away, to enjoy a picnic by a river bank.

Pro-Tip

While you're at it, you could even explore Srirangapatna that boasts of Tipu Sultan's grandiose and all the fame it was known for. If you want to go for the complete trip, we suggest a day trip to Mysore.
