Set in the middle of Punnamada in Alleppey, Lake Canopy lets you soak in the backwaters of Kerala is luxury, cottages and infinity pools. And they even have canals on the property!

Place By The Water

You really can’t get enough of Kerala can you? Be it the picturesque canals, backwaters, beaches or lagoons, it’s just so relaxing. Now imagine if there were a resort that brought all those elements together? Picture that, and it’s exactly what Lake Canopy is. Right on the edge of the Vembanad Lake, the south side, it’s got canals weaving in and out of the resort, a swimming pool that’s right on the bund so give you the feeling like you’re in lake {yes, infinity pool-like} and pretty cottages for you to call home.

Playing Cottage

There are double-storey buildings that house premium rooms {pick the top floor if you are given a choice}, that overlook the pool and the lake beyond. They also have separate cottages that are a bit more extravagant. They even have Jacuzzis in them if you want to skip the swimming pool. Be it the rooms or cottages, expect a hint of glamour in decor; I especially like patterns {paisley to stripes} of the bathroom walls that give it a pop of colour. Each room has a balcony, or patio {if you’re on the ground floor}, so you can just curl up with a book, or your iPad and enjoy being in the balmy weather. I quite enjoy the rains when here too, as it’s a different kind of tranquil. Besides, it’s cooler than the hot summers!

In On The Action

When you’re done lazing in the room, head off to wallow in the swimming pool. Or better still, jump into a pedal boat and explore the inlets, canals and backwaters. You can even do a spot of fishing. What’s really cool is their multi-cuisine restaurant is shaped like a houseboat and is on the waters. Rather exciting for kids and kids at heart!

Since you’re in God’s Own Country, make some time for sightseeing, it’s worth it. There’s a beach a few minutes away, an interesting black granite statue of Buddha — Karumadi Kuttan, plus many temples in around Alleppy. If you’re going in August, stick around for the boat race that happens on the lake, on the second Saturday of the month.
