In this exclusive online session, Nikki May, author of Wahala, will take you through her method of creating unforgettable characters. Born in Bristol, raised in Lagos, and an Anglo-Nigerian herself, Nikki ran her own ad agency before writing this, her debut novel. And it's already being made into a BBC Production! So, no one better to tell you how to craft interesting characters (which we hear she was inspired to do over a "loud lunch!"). Learn how to create these nuanced characters as the author shares insights on how she went about creating her four lead characters - Ronke, Simi, Boo and Isobel. Since they’re mixed race and come with plenty of the past with them, she’ll share the process behind highlighting their redeeming qualities and flaws with a unique expertise. Then, the session will explore the concept of modern love, friendship, fractured relationships, darkness and hope.
The workshop will provide insights on how to get started on your writing, doing research, crafting multi-faceted characters and other things that one might face when they are at the cusp of writing their first characters.
