Organised by The Reading Room, part of the Drama Queen Theater Company, the event is a unique performative experience that will have you bringing and reading out a letter to a group of complete strangers in a room. The letter could be the one you sent or received. Or a letter you did not send or are yet to send but want to read it out loud. The idea behind this event is quite simple — to share and experience together the diversity of thoughts and ideas that each letter brings to the forum. The Reading Room and Drama Queen Theater Company, a documentary theatre company, is run by Bangalore-based actor-writer-director Anuja Ghosalkar.
This Saturday, Read Out A Favourite Letter To A Room Full Of Strangers
What Is It?
Who Is It For?
We love a handwritten letter ourselves and the last one we got was ages ago. And imagine our happiness when there’s an event dedicated to written letters. Well, by now with all our excitement, you should have guessed right. This event is basically for anyone who loves sending or receiving a mail the old-fashioned way. In fact, as we write this, we are already making a note to rummage through the letters our grannies used to send us a long time ago. Talk about nostalgia.
Why Should I Go For It?
The fact that you need to bring a letter to attend this event is itself the reason you should go for it. All that nostalgia and memories that hit you when you are searching for a letter that someone sent you from abroad or one from the series of letters you exchanged with your pen pal is something worth experiencing. And then when you get a stage to read your own letter along with public letters that have been curated by Anuja, you know you are in for a good day. The curated letters could talk about anything from communism to letters of correspondence between parents and their children and to everything in between.
Please note that this edition will be featuring only letters written in English.
