What Makes It Awesome

Tired of all that emotional baggage you've been carrying around as a result of the close to zero travel experience you've had ever since Covid-19 (close to zero because we're taking into account the trips you've made to the refrigerator)? We bring you the best news! You can now pack some real baggage, rent a campervan and drive around Karnataka.

That's right. Bengaluru-based startup Campervan Camps and Holidays India launched its fleet of India’s first commercially approved premium motorhomes in association with the Karnataka Government and Tourism Department. This initiative is primarily to revive the tourism sector that has been badly affected by COVID-19.

Here's how it will work. Luxercamp will partner with small campsites in scenic locales including select campsites of Jungle Lodges and Resorts Ltd, and other lodges, homestays and inns across Karnataka and so you are allowed to visit these protected areas. When you rent your RV from Bengaluru you get to choose from one of the recommended itineraries or have one customised. Expect a full holiday curation–sightseeing, meals activities and adventure.

However, citing logistical reasons, a self-drive is not an option at the moment. Each campervan comes with a driver and a guide. Experiences currently on offer include historical sites (Belur-Halebidu or Hampi), beaches (Om or Gokarna), wilderness (Kabini), sanctuaries (Bandipur, Sitanadi) and the lush Western Ghats. The complete luxury motorhome is about 200 sq ft and comes with smart TVs, comfy Sofas, a Kitchenette, Convertible Queen Beds, separate Shower and Toilet and a Barbecue Unit too. If parking is your final question, know that this is on the government. They will be providing parking facilities at various tourist spots.

Pro-Tip

Meals are cooked at camping sites by the team, but you are welcome to join too. The experience starts between INR 25,000 to INR 30,000 for two adults per day exclusive of taxes. The first campervan is ready, with nine more in line. The company also says it will have all-India permits for all, soon.
