What Makes It Awesome?

A few months back, I attended a makeup boot camp by Ritika Dass. I was looking to improve my techniques and stumbled upon her through an FB page. I was impressed by her credentials and the reviews given by her previous students. Ritika has done her post graduation in Cosmetology and is a former MAC makeup artist (MUA). Since then, she has been freelancing doing fashion and bridal make up.

When I called Ritika to enquire, she informed me that she has two sets of classes – Beginners and Advanced, which is conducted in a group. She is also willing to take up personal grooming classes if you so wish to sharpen some certain brush strokes or understand which products would work for you. She suggested that I go to the Beginners class first. Along, along with such sessions, she also conducts classes for aspiring MUAs or existing beauticians who wish to hone their skills. These sessions span over a couple of weeks. She is flexible with her timings, in case you are a working professional, she will try to accommodate you accordingly.

The class I attended was over 2 days – Saturday and Sunday about 4 hours each at her house in Benson Town. There were two other girls and Ritika had requested us to bring along our entire makeup kit, so that she would work with what we already have instead of making investments in an entirely new set. In case, you didn't have a certain product, she would provide it to you during the class. Ritika started by explaining the skincare routine, use of essentials like cleanser, toner, moisturizer, sunscreen etc.

She also gave helpful suggestions on which products to buy. Then, she demonstrated on each of us, the right method of using foundation, powder, eye and lip makeup. This was helpful as everyone has unique features and it’s important to know what works best for you. After each demonstration, she made us practice on our own. Ritika guided in picking up the right shades, this is when I realised that the foundation which I used was light, and using a shade dark would do wonders for my look. I was also happy to learn the right way of applying a concealer, to hide my prominent dark circles. We left that day, keeping on the full makeup, which enabled us to see how it set it on our face, hours later.

For the next day, she asked us to apply makeup at home and then come for the class. She wanted to assess how well we had learnt. Yes, she really did put in the effort to ensure we made full use of the class. She corrected our mistakes if any, made us clean our face and reapply the entire make up again. Ritika, herself adopted 2 sets of looks on both the day. The first day, she had her make up own and the second day, it was her bare face. This made us aware of how putting a layer can change your look.

So yes, this was the beginner's boot camp. We ended the class, knowing the right techniques, what works for us and a good set of products to buy. She also gave us a diary on a complimentary basis.

I would surely recommend Ritika Dass for anyways who aspires to improve your make up skills. You can contact her on her Facebook page to book your class, by searching for Ritika Dass -makeup artist.
