The monsoon is upon us and for those of you who love listening to music to the background of rain, nature, or both, Malnad Calling is the music festival of your dreams. Set in Sakleshpur the festival celebrates nature, art and music is on it’s 8th year. Art installations, live (and electronic) music, art and craft workshops and fun activities (or performances) like slacklining, poi swinging and music jams are all lined up for the 3 day (technically 2 days and 2 nights) festival. Other activities include talks, workshops, nature walks, yoga sessions and some good ol’ chilling.
Being in the midst of nature and away from the hustle and bustle of the city, the festival will probably have you bringing out your rarely used sleeping bags and tents. Don’t have them? No problem, you can rent them out at the venue for the duration of your ticket validity. This also means that the music and festivities are likely to be on through the night along with the bonfire and community jam session. Some of the musicians set to hit the stage are Bangalore’s own Suraj Mani and the Tattva Trip, Space Is All We Have, and Iyer’s Filter Coffee. Other acts from around the country like Cut A Vibe, Grannular, and Naar will also be playing.
Tickets start at INR 1,499 for a day pass and includes entry into all workshops and activities for the day, for which may also choose to pitch your (own) tent. The price goes up to INR 4,499 for the 2 days 2 night experience inclusive of tents and sleeping bags provided at the venue. Students passes are at INR 2,999 for the same (just display your student ID at the gates). Food is to be bought at the venue, and will be traditional Malnad cuisine. Being an outdoor fest, be sure to pack for the rainy outdoors.
