What Makes It Awesome

Considering going on a beach vacay? Head to Malpe Beach in Udupi for a dose of sun, sand and fun. If you're getting tired of sitting in your office all day and have a crazy urge to sink your feet in the sand, we recommend taking a trip to Malpe Beach in Udupi. Located just about 6 km from Udupi, you can go here by bus from the city for less than INR 20. Once you reach the bus stop, call for an auto and they will drop you close to the beach.

Even before you enter the beach, you'll find yourself being greeted by plenty of shacks that sell everything from seafood, snacks and meals to toys, balloons and tiny souvenirs. The second you see the white sand, though, you'll want to take off your footwear and run towards the water. The beach is shallow and perfect for going for a dip (and for making all your Insta followers jealous!). Plus, the palm and coconut trees, the cool breeze and rocky shoreline make for #vacaygoals. Adventure junkies can let their hair down with the water sports they have on offer here. We found offers on jet skiing, banana boats and paragliding when we went there!

If you think you can't get enough of beaches, check out the four other beaches nearby, including the curious geological marvel that is St. Mary's Island. There's a ferry system from Malpe Beach and you can go to St. Mary's to explore the beautiful island that is said to have been a pit stop for Vasco Da Gama himself, in 1498.

Pro-Tip

Malpe Beach can get pretty crowded at the weekends, so if you're looking for some quality me-time, go on the weekdays, or early in the mornings.
