What Makes It Awesome

So we were taking a trip to Malpe beach and St. Mary's island. We happened to take a different road this time and ended up near the Malpe port. We got to experience a totally different world inside. We saw at least 2000 boats parked and each so colourful, with a flag/symbol of something they believe in, truck loads of ice coming in and going from the port, a group of men (at least a 100) sitting and stitching the nets the fish eat away while fishing, the control room making various announcements and fishermen offloading the fishes they caught in the course of few days. More curious to know about the life of the fishermen, we got into a boat, the fishermen were loading their batch of ice for the next hunt. They load as much ice, enough for 9-10 days on an average, food, water, clothes and all essentials. No reception, no contact with their family and friends, nothing but water everywhere for 9-10 days and full fledged fishing. Can you even imagine that kinda life? They come back to stock up and the cycle repeats. Meanwhile the fishing nets are stitched up, food is prepared and they're all set again! This was indeed one of the most eye opening experience and would mark it a must-visit for people looking to explore the local culture in and around Udupi.
