Seafood on a budget is a rarity in this city of ours. So, we are always on the lookout for a restaurant that serves us the winning combo. Well, we are happy to inform you that we fished around and came up with a whopper. On the busier end of CMH Road, Maravanthe is unlike most restaurants in the neighbourhood because you won’t have to break the bank to eat here.
The setting is pretty straight-forward. An A/C room with comfortable seating and clean interiors. They present you with a menu as soon as you get seated. And you can browse through seafood specialities from Mangalore. We wisely stuck to the coastal offerings, beginning with Chicken Ghee Roast. The chunks of chicken were coated generously with a mixture of robust spices and cooked in ample ladles of ghee. The cashews added to the richness of the dish.
But soon our attention turned to the Maravanthe Seafood Meals which was worth every penny of the INR 375 we shelled out. We started off with dunking our neer dosa in a coconut-milk based, silverfish (not the kind you find in old, dusty books) curry that had just the right amount of spice. With our boiled rice, we paired the rasam, vegetables, and other curries. We were also served a portion of delish squid sukka (we wished we could eat a few more portions of this) and tawa-fried prawns. This makes for a filling meal and we’d happily swing by for lunch sometime very soon. Special props go to the spicy grated coconut and dry fish chutney, of which we asked for second helpings.
