Beady eyed Jyothi Radhakrishnan is a senior technical manager but thank goodness for us, she moonlights as a jewellery designer, and a fine one at that! Apart from her designs, under the name Mayuri Jewels, which range from chunky tribal and Meenakari to delicate florals and shell art, what we love most is that she uses non-allergic ear wires that are completely lead, cadmium and nickel-free, usually with pewter and silver dominating. Her use of beads also stands out as they’re sourced from America, UK, Nepal and Far East mostly, and hand-picked by Radhakrishnan herself. So don’t expect to get the same designs twice over, as she believes firmly in not repeating.
Expect the designs to be inspired by movies, music, art and even a tribute to the Wonders of The World! If you really like a design you’ve seen, or prefer Radhakrishnan bringing out her sketch book you create a piece for you, she’s happy to oblige. You can pay us for letting you in on this secret, but if you send her a photo of your outfit, she’ll model any piece of jewellery you fancy to suit the exact pattern. How about that for style and exclusivity, ladies?
Jhumkis and chandelier ear pieces are fast-selling products, as are the nose-pins which double up as clip-ons. Do check out her Raaga range -- musical notes with a simple ruby or emerald adding a hint of colour. Jade, Rudraksh and Corals too feature in her work, so there’s certainly something for every girl there, whether you’re the desi dresser or the Western wearer.
