Shortcut

Lads, for all your custom ethnic wear, look no further than Fateh Men’s Wear, just off Commercial Street. The tailoring shop also specialises in suits, trousers, and shirts.

A Stitch In Time

Sure, you can get a size 34 kurta off the rack of any ethnic wear store, but will it fit you exactly how you want it? If it does, you are sorted. If it doesn’t, then head straight to the tailoring shop of Fateh Men’s Wear. Located at the end of Narayan Pillai Street, just off Commercial Street, Anwar Khan’s tailoring shop has been suiting up gentlemen of Bangalore for almost two decades now.

The small store looks just like every other tailoring shop with racks of fabric on one side and freshly tailored pieces on the opposite end. In the centre is Anwar and his work table, where you will see his notebook full of measurements and orders, his measuring tape, and a pair of scissors. A friendly chap, ask him about what kind of tailoring he does and he will tell you that he does every kind of men’s tailoring. Need a kurta? Consider it done. Need a fancy sherwani for your BFF’s sangeet? Tell him when the function is and he’ll have it ready well before that. Anwar’s cool like that.

Suit Up

Kurta-pyjama, sherwanis, bandhagalas, and Nehru jackets are his specialisation when it comes to ethnic wear. You can either get him a couple of designs or you can flip through the catalogue books he has in his shop. The catalogue should give you some idea if you are clueless. We flipped through the book and found ensembles that look straight out of Ranbir Kapoor’s ethnic ensemble in movies such as Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Also, spotted were very Manish Malhotra-esque bandhagalas complete with embroidery work which Anwar tells us he can get it done. Embellishments, embroidery, or whatever customisation you seek, in any case, Anwar tells us that he can stitch anything be it simple and elegant or grand and flashy — the devil is in the details.

Suits and formal trousers and shirts can also be stitched here with Anwar providing his own materials. Slim fits to regular fits, shirts can customised to the T. Need concealed button placket for your slim-fit full sleeve shirt? Consider it done. You can also bring your own material as Anwar says that his collection is limited. He’ll be more than happy to guide you to the right store in and around Commercial Street should you need help finding the right material.

The delivery period is usually one week’s time but urgent orders are also undertaken. If there’s any last minute suiting up required, you know who to ring up now. Stitching charges for the ethnic wear starts at INR 1600 while it’s INR 450 upwards for formal wear.
