We are big fans of Monkey Bar’s big, hearty breakfasts, served with fun and regional twists as well as nods to universally loved brekkie dishes like pancakes and French toast. The menu now has some new additions, both in the desi and international departments.

Chamrajpet To Malabar Connections

What we liked about the breakfast additions was the fact that there are plenty of regional additions to the menu, and they can easily work as a brunch. For instance, you can opt for a portion of Goan chorizo with their Spanish Omelette or their curried Akhuri and Malabari Parotha can be perked up with an addition of spicy crabmeat.

We started off with the Spanish Omelette, a tortilla with eggs, potatoes and caramelised onions and served with a creamy queso, grilled tomatoes, roasted peppers and toast. The child in our group loved the Spanish Omelette because it had all her favourite things — eggs, butter, potatoes and cheese. The accompanying queso was a hit with us too for dipping in bits of the omelette. If you are opting for the combination of the Parsi-style Akhuri with Malabari parothas, then we’d suggest you skip the eggs and embrace the Chamrajpet-style spicy crab meat instead. The curry leaves and chillies infused crab meat scramble went rather well with the flaky parothas.

Then there’s also Xacuti Omelette Curry, Thela Sandwich {a take on the Mumbaiyya sandwich} and Millet Upma with Kundapur style Ghee Roast Chicken for those who love their breakfast hot and spicy.

Dessert For Breakfast?

We had set our sights on the Breakfirst Burger with grilled chicken, avocados, fried egg, and onion jam sandwiched between burger buns. But the burger hardly had any avocado in it, and taste wise it was bland and fell a bit flat. We had no such complaints about the lovely Dark Chocolate Pancakes with whiskey maple syrup. The mini pancakes came filled with dark chocolate, scattered with additional dark cocoa nibs, whipped cream. Plus, the whiskey maple sauce was the bomb and lifted the humble pancakes to a decadent breakfast level.

We hear the Salted Caramel and Candied Fig Waffle is equally decadent and we are coming back to try this soon. We finished off our heavy breakfast with cups of cappuccinos and Americanos.

So, We're Thinking...

While we liked the surprise meat options added to the different breakfast dishes — from Goan chorizo to Kundapur chicken ghee roast, we are still a bit partial towards MoBar’s Breakfast classics such as Toast To France or their Stunning Eggs Benedict {all to be washed down with breakfast cocktails guys}. We are loyalists like that.
