Shortcut

Less than 1.5 hours away from the city, Muthyala Maduvu is the site of a small yet pleasant waterfall that invites you in with its refreshing waters.

Pearly Sights

A short drive from Bangalore, past Anekal, will get you to Muthyala Maduvu. Popular with picnickers from the city, the waterfalls are perfect for when you want a break from the routine but don’t want to venture too far away. The place is best accessed through bikes or cars although you can also get to Anekal by bus and hitch a ride from there. Or take an auto.

Do make the most of your drive up there as well. You’ll drive past lush open fields and green pathways that make for excellent picnic spots {don’t forget to pick up after yourselves though}. The best time to reach Muthalaya Madauvu is in the early hours of the morning, on weekends, or during a weekday when the crowds are thinner.

Falls Note

When you’ve reached Muthalaya Maduvu, you’ll have to park a little further away and take a flight of narrow stairs to reach the falls. Do note that Muthalaya Maduvu is a small waterfall. Thin jets of water meander through jagged rocks and make their way down to a small pool. If you are expecting grandeur and scale this is not the place for you. Then head off to the Sathodi Falls.

Instead, you can spend your time here soaking your feet in the waters as guppies swing by to say hello. And watch as the waterfall crashes into the rocks, with the dispersing beads of water looking like pearls, which is why the place is also called Pearl Valley. If you want to add a slice of adventure to your trip, you can climb the rocks surrounding the waterfall and take in sweeping views of the spot. The rocks can be tricky so make sure you wear the right shoes and are cautious.

To make the most of your one-day getaway, we recommend you club your trip to Muthyala Maduvu with a visit to Bannerghatta National Park, that’s just 25 kilometres away.
