Why Going To The Mysore Zoo Is Not As Boring As You Thought

Shortcut

For a quick getaway with the kids or your gang, Mysore Zoo is just two hours away!

The Animal Kingdom

I know most of us leave zoos feeling pretty upset about the conditions the animals are in, but the Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens AKA Mysore Zoo is an exception to this rule. All the animals have enough space to roam around and are fed and taken care of well. You can spot the cutest giraffes, rhinos, monkeys, baby elephants with their mamas and a huge variety of birds. Our favourite is the white peacock, especially when it fans its feathers out to impress the peahen {who doesn’t get impressed as easily as us, clearly}. The mother leopard watching her little cubs playing and occasionally separating them when they fight is something that’s happened to all of us, so if you’re visiting with your mum and she relates to mama leopard, don’t be surprised! We also saw a white tiger from very close quarters and the beauty of it is something everyone must experience.

Pet Giraffe? Yes, Please!

Mysore Zoo also has an adoption scheme for their animals! No, you cannot try to fit a 15 foot giraffe into your living room. What they mean is that you can sponsor any animal for a period of time! It’s not as expensive as you might think and you get bragging rights to say you are besties with an elephant or a rhino. You can check out their website here if interested. The zoo is open from 8.30am to 5.30pm but the best times to visit are before 11am when the birds are active and post 3pm when the mammals are awake and not hungry.

Entry: INR 50 {adults}, INR 20 {kids}

Closed on Thursdays.
