How To Get To Nagarahole
Nagarahole is easily accessible by road and it takes about four hours by road from Bangalore to reach the national park. Alternatively, if you don't want to drive, you can take the train, Mysuru Express from KSR Bangalore to Mysore Junction. From Mysore, it's just about 100 kilometres by road and there are KSRTC buses available. You can also fly into Bangalore or Mysore airport as well.
Nagarahole National Park
The main place to visit here is the national park that by the way fun fact, used to be called the Rajiv Gandhi National Park until they changed it to the present name – it's named after the Nagarahole River that flows through it and the name translates to Serpent River. The national park shares its borders with Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary on the south and Bandipur Tiger Reserve on the southeast. The Kabini and Taraka reservoirs are there at the park. You can spot a large gathering of tigers, leopards, Asiatic wild dogs, sloth bears, Asiatic elephants, gaur, sambar, chital, muntjac, four-horned antelope, wild pigs, mouse deer, and South-western langur here. The park is great for bird enthusiasts as well. You can opt for safaris and if you are lucky spot tigers and tiger cubs here.
Dubare Elephant Camp
If you didn't know already, elephants think we humans are cute and nothing like meeting these gentle giants and feeling all happy. At the Dubare Elephant Camp, you can learn about the history, ecology and biology of these pachyderms and then watch these gentle giants being bathed. You'll even get to feed the elephants!
Kabini Backwaters
Kabini is close to Nagarhole and you can drive down here and enjoy some coracle rides and cycling trails here. You can also take the motor boat ride on Kabini’s eponymous river. For photography enthusiasts, there are plenty to take capture. The cycling trail will have you exploring the quaint village of Kabini as well.
Iruppu Falls
This majestic waterfalls is around 45 minutes ride from the national park and is located in the Brahmagiri range. Iruppu Falls falls from a height of 170 feet and is a popular tourist spot. It is an ideal picnic spot for families and large groups and also a popular trekking spot. You'll find people take this route to reach the Narimale Forest Camp, the Brahmagiri peak.
